University of Zakho Participated in the MED Green Forum 2015 Florence, Italy

Dr. Kamil Mansoor Yousif, lecturer at the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Zakho, received an invitation to participate in the International Conference entitled The Third MED Green Forum 2015, from Prof. Arq. Marco Sala, Director of ABITA (Centro Interuniversitario di Ricerca per l’Architettura Bioecologica e l’Innovazione Tecnologica per l’Ambiente) in Italy.

The Meditarrean Green Buildings And Renewable Energy Forum – 2015, was held in Florence/ Italy, at the School of Architecture, University of Florence, Italy, from the 26th to 29th of August, 2015. The first forum was held in 2010 in France followed by Morocco in 2012. The organizers of the MED Green Forum 2015 were ABITA from Italy, WREC- (World Renewable Energy Congress) from UK, and ETA (Florence Renewable Energies) also from Italy. Among the sponsors were the Italian Foreign Ministry , ISESCO, and the Springer Publishing Company.

Dr. Kamil M. Yousif attended and participated at the conference as a chairman for one of the technical sessions on Thursday the 27th of August 2015 (RE, FFT). Moreover, Dr. Yousif shared the congress with a paper by presenting an oral Presentation on Some of Physical Properties of Pure and Fluorine Doped Tin Oxide Films Used as Transparent Conducting Oxide.

The forum highlighted the importance of growing renewable energy applications in two main sectors, Electricity Generation and the Sustainable Building Sector. The Mediterranean region was chosen to illustrate the viability of using renewable energy to satisfy all its energy needs. The Technical Committee, received more than 158 abstracts from 51 countries covering many topics, such as sustainable architecture, building construction management and environment , ventilation & air movement in buildings , R.E. in buildings and cities, eco material and technology, sustainability, etc.

Dr. Yousif presented paper was shared actively and discussed by the participants. He was also able to highlight the scientific progress going on in the Kurdistan Region, in particular at the University of Zakho.

The congress was a good opportunity to exchange ideas, experience, and planning for future studies in Kurdistan through contacting with and meeting experts in the field of eco material and renewable energy and architecture, like Prof. Arq. Marco Sala, Director of ABITA , Prof. A. Sayigh, Chairman of WREC, Prof. Rajat Gupta, Director of the Oxford Institute for Sustainable Development (OISD), UK, and Prof. Fernando Recalde, lecturer at the School of Architecture, University of Florence, Italy.

Dr. Yousif also participated in other activities, such as tour visits to some green buildings near Florence, such as Hospitals, and Supermarkets where renewable energy is applied. The tour visit included also some companies which produce PV., etc.

In general, the MED Green Forum 2015 was an exciting event, and a scientific opportunity to update knowledge on sustainable eco technology in the field of civil construction, sustainable architecture and environmental technologies.
